Duane Leek
Duane Leek, 78, of Toledo passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at his home. A burial with military rights and a celebration of life will be at a later date.
Duane Irving Leek was born on June 28, 1948, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Marjorie (Baas) Leek.
Duane served his county in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. He was awarded The Purple Heart and was honorably discharged on December 22, 1969, after being wounded in combat.
On August 15, 1970, he married Debra Posusta in Tama, Iowa, and together they welcomed a daughter, Daneen Kay. Deb passed away on September 6, 1992.
On July 13, 2019, Duane married his significant other of 26 years, Judy Fuller, in Marshalltown, Iowa. This union gained Duane two stepdaughters; Amie and Tamie. Duane and Judy made their home in Toledo, Iowa.
Duane farmed and lent a helping hand to many in the surrounding area. He drove semi for many years, as well. He was the Tama County Landfill Administrator, retiring in 2012.
Duane enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Duane enjoyed camping and fishing, riding horses, riding motorcycles-anything fast and loud. He enjoyed spending time sitting in the garage talking with friends and acting as the neighborhood watch.
Duane always had a listening ear. He was one that would offer advice when asked and always made time for anyone that came his way.
Left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Judy. His daughter Daneen (Dirk) Henle, stepdaughters; Amie (Steve) Rahn and Tamie (Jeff) Dolash. His grandchildren; Dalaynee (Donovan) Henle, Draysen (Audrey) Henle, Layne (Lynn) Rahn, Conner Rahn, Tamisha Rogers, and Jaycie Coffey. His great-granddaughter, Willow Barnes. Also, his brother Laywin (Linda) Leek, sisters-in-law; Diane Popelka and Jean Posusta.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Debra, his parents, in-laws Arthur and Betty Posusta; brothers-in-law; David Posusta and Richard Popelka. He will be reunited with his longtime number one gelding; Red and his faithful companion, Rex.
Memorials may be directed to the family. A memorial fund will be established.
