Joan Marie Kennedy
Joan Marie Kennedy, 63, passed away on January 1, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. In accordance with Joan’s wishes, no services will be held.
Joan was born August 2, 1962, to Robert and Carole Wattnem in LaCross, WI. She graduated from LaSalle High School and received her associates degree from Kirkwood Community College. She worked as a dental assistant for 44 years. Joan enjoyed helping others, traveling, reading, and spending time with those she loved.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Nicole (Mike) Markey of Independence; her son, Michael (Katelin) Kennedy of Des Moines; her grandkids, Mackenzie Markey, Kali Markey and Brooks Kennedy; her brother, Robert (Nadia) Wattnem; her sisters Deb (Pat) Milke, and Barb (Dan) Klimesh. She was preceded in death by her parents.
To celebrate her love for animals and courageous spirit, memorials may be directed to the ARL of Iowa or the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent to the residence.
