Carol Yvonne Marting

Carol Yvonne Marting, 88, passed away unexpectedly at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City on January 17, 2026.  A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa.

Carol is survived by her children, Lori Huelskamp, Lynn (Jim) Olson, Leanne (Jeff) O’Brien, Larry (Amie Bissonett) Marting; grandchildren, Lexi (Bob) Brockman, Daniel Huelskamp, Eryn (Johnny) Lemke, Emily (Conor) Salvino; great grandchildren, Gabrielle (Jeremy) Lawson, Gage Brockman, Aidan Lemke and Caroline Lemke; siblings, Fred (Bonnie) Heins and Lorna Sterrett. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lorene Heins and husband, Elmer, in 2025.

Carol graduated from Monona High School in 1955, and the University of Wisconsin- Stout in 1959 with her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, married and a member of the first bell choir group. She enjoyed counted cross stitch, local history and genealogy. She will be remembered for her delicious zucchini bread and mint bars; she could make a gourmet meal with only a few ingredients. Carol provided service to the community as an EMT and secretary of the Monona Museum for decades.  She was a first chair coronet player in high school and college and was an excellent piano player. Carol enjoyed the “Birthday Club Ladies”, her lifelong college friends- sharing many stories of those days.

Memorials may be made in Carol’s name to Monona Historical Society, MFL Ambulance or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
