Janice J. Himschoot
Janice J. Himschoot, 66, passed away on February 1, 2026 in Traer, Iowa.
She was born November 6, 1959, to Neal and Sylvia Himschoot. She grew up in Buckingham, Iowa, attended North Tama and was a proud member of the Class of 1978. She enjoyed her time in Iowa City before moving back to her hometown.
Janice was a natural caretaker. Her deep compassion and sense of humor earned her many friends throughout her lifelong nursing career, including 25 years at Sunrise Hill. She cared deeply for her patients and friends, and even the occasional backyard bunny after a couple of margaritas.
She was very proud of her daughter, Laura, and was blessed with three grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored and delighted in watching them grow.
Janice cherished time with friends and family, regularly connecting over shared meals. She loved watching the fish jump in Minnesota, long drives to watch the leaves change colors in the fall, playing bingo, strong margaritas, and getting a good back scratch. Janice enjoyed a variety of foods including Mexican and Chinese cuisine, fried bologna sandwiches, sesame sticks, and her favorite snack: crunchy “hospital” ice.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Neal and Sylvia; sister Cynthia; brothers Alan, Steven (Jo Ann), and Brian (Deana). Janice is survived by her daughter Laura (Chris Bartels) of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Brysen, Braylen, and Braxten; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to 708 6th St. Traer, IA 50675.
