Anthony Mares Rangel

Anthony Mares Rangel, born November 26, 1950, in Ciudad Juárez, passed away on February 5 in Cedar Rapids. He was the beloved son of Esperanza Mares Rangel and Antonio Rangel. He came to the United States as a child, where he built a life defined by hard work, dedication, and deep love for his family.

Anthony graduated from Van Nuys High School in Southern California and worked as a construction worker and cement mason throughout his life. He was among the first supervisors during the construction of the Sylmar Basin before later moving to Texas and eventually settling in Cedar Rapids. Known for his strong work ethic, he was a rough and tough man and a perfectionist when it came to his craft.

Tony, as he was known to many, was a proud and sometimes stubborn man who deeply loved his family. In Cedar Rapids, friends affectionately called him “Pancho.” During the last years of his life, he cherished time spent meeting and reconnecting with family in Las Vegas. He will always be remembered by his loved ones for his strength, determination, and unwavering commitment to those he cared about.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Rogelio and Lorenzo Rangel.

Anthony leaves behind his loving sons, Anthony and Ricky Rangel; his grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sister, Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A private celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 26, in North Hollywood.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
