Donald Wayne Hansen

Donald W. Hansen, 93, of Cedar Falls and more recently of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well-lived.

Don proudly served two years in the United States Army. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Joell Meinders on July 15, 1955. Together they shared more than 71 years of marriage, building a beautiful life and family together.

Don dedicated 36 years of his life serving the Cedar Falls community as a firefighter. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his work as a firefighter, as he also worked part-time as a carpenter. He was a hardworking man who took pride in his work, his family, and the people he served.

Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joell; his five children: Deb (Randy) Pressley, Diane (Bob) Larson, Denise (Jason) Reuther, Doyle Hansen, and Doug (Erin) Hansen; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest accomplishment and greatest joy, and his love and legacy will live on through each generation.

A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice or St. Croix Hospice, whose compassionate caregivers are truly “angels on earth”.

Don leaves behind a lifetime of service, love, and memories that will be cherished by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
