Matthew “Mark” Caraway
Matthew “Mark” Caraway of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 11, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held at REM Iowa (1220 Industrial Ave, Hiawatha, IA) on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father Richard A. Caraway, his mother Gloria (Brown) Caraway, his sister Cheryl Annette Aswegan (Caraway) and his brother Carl R. Caraway.
Matthew was born on December 17, 1963; the son of Richard and Gloria (Brown) Caraway.
Matthew resided at New Horizons for many years until the facility closed in 2019. Matthew and many other individuals from New Horizons found a new home with REM Iowa.
Matthew attended the Monroe Developmental Center in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. He also participated in programming at Options of Linn County and the REM Day Program. Matthew loved music, listening to music, playing instruments, especially the drums and participating in Sound Reach Choir for many years. He also enjoyed participating in Special Olympics activities, attending Camp Courageous, attending special community events and being outdoors. He loved watching basketball and NASCAR and shooting hoops.
