Russell E. Olson
Russell E. Olson, 93, of Fairfax, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025. Per his wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Fairfax City Hall, located at 300 80th Street Ct. Fairfax, Iowa.
Russell was born January 30, 1932, to Russell and Alice (Viberg) Olson in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Northwood High School on May 19, 1950. Russell later went on to Iowa State University where he received his degree in agriculture. He married Elvira Johnson on December 21, 1952, in Northwood, Iowa. He worked as a sheep buyer for Wilson’s Packing Company in Cedar Rapids and later farmed until he retired.
He enjoyed watching football and women’s basketball. Russell loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them.
Russell is survived by his son, David (Nancy) Olson; son-in-law, Tim Kay; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; fifteen great great grandchildren; siblings, JoAnn Olson and Paul (Linda) Olson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his daughter Cindy Kay, his parents, his brother Rodney Olson, and his brother-in-law Craig Fallgatter.
Memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross or ALS Association in honor of Russell.
The family would like to thank the American Red Cross of Cedar Rapids, and all the first responders that came to our aid. They would also like to thank the neighbors, friends, and family that have called and supported them during this difficult time.
