Richard "Andy" Eugene Anderson

Richard Eugene Anderson, Sr. passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025. Richard “Andy” was born August 30, 1935, in Iowa Falls, Iowa to parents John and Carrie (Larson) Anderson.

Andy grew up alongside his sister, Beverly. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. He was married to Gretchen Anderson for many years, and they had three children: Christine, Richard, and Alec.

Andy was passionate about helping and volunteering in his community. He retired from the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was the Executive Director at the Harbor of Hope for many years. He volunteered at Central Iowa Shelter Services (CISS). Andy found joy and happiness in the service of others.

Andy loved to follow Iowa State football and sports in general. He loved to help others and found happiness and joy in his service.

Andy is survived by his children, Christine (Richard) Pehlke and Richard (Diane) Anderson; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister Beverly (Jack) King; and daughter-in-law, Karen Anderson.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Carrie Anderson and his son Alec Anderson.

A service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 600 6th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Harbor of Hope, or Central Iowa Shelter Services (CISS).
