Loraine Ardis Mork Weston
Loraine Ardis Mork Weston, 93, of West Union peacefully left this earthly life on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, following a long illness. Loraine was born on June 27, 1932, in West Union to Abel and Stella Mork. She married Thomas Paulson Weston on October 6, 1950, in West Union.
Loraine is survived by her daughter, Christine (Dr. Charles E.) Riggs, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC and two sons, Thomas Michael (Doreen) Weston of Cambridge, IL and Timothy Allen Weston of West Union, and a brother-in-law Allen “Buck” Weston (Janet), Fond du Lac, WI and four grandchildren, Charles III and Andrew Riggs, and Heather and Kiah Weston. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Daisy, Bear, Stella and Cedar Riggs and numerous nieces and nephews and her devoted cousin, Marilyn Miller (Mike) of Minneapolis. She was preceded by her husband Tom in 2006, and infant son Teddy in 1961; her sister Elaine Leiran and husband, Norman; her brother Arlo and sister-in law Betty Mork; brother-in-law Lionel Weston and wife Marion; sister-in-law Shirley Schrader and husband, Louie; her niece, Marsha Mork and nephew, Brian Mork; and many beloved dogs that were cherished throughout her lifetime.
Loraine worked for 29 years at Farmers Savings Bank in West Union. She began her career as a teller and in the years that followed, she “did a little bit of everything.” She retired as a vice president and trust officer in 1995. She enjoyed helping people and working with her colleagues at the bank. As a result, she made many friends throughout her life.
She had many interests and was a frugal lady. She made the best use of what she was blessed to have. Tom and Loraine planted large gardens and enjoyed sharing their bounty with others and preserved what was harvested by freezing and canning the abundant produce together. She was an excellent cook and a skilled seamstress. She created everything from slip covers and curtains, to clothing for herself, her children and grandchildren. She loved quilting and designed many novel patterns. She helped with organizing the weekly “Do Day” at Zion Lutheran Church for many years and was active in her circle. She loved the fellowship and friendships forged with the ladies who came to “Do Day” to share their talents in creating quilts to support the work of Lutheran World Relief. Although she lived many miles from her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she always treasured their visits and her visits with them and found joy in their accomplishments. By her actions, she taught her children many valuable lessons of life.
A Celebration of the Life of Loraine Weston is being planned at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.
