Victor Davis

Victor Davis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, at the age of 63. Born on January 17, 1962, in Fort Myers, Florida, Victor lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to his family.

Raised in the South, Victor spent his formative years farming on family-owned tobacco farms in Georgia and commercial fishing and shrimping in Florida. His upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. Throughout his life, he embraced hard work, finding fulfillment in a variety of jobs that allowed him to explore new adventures. His dedication and passion for his work reflected his belief in making the most of every opportunity.

Victor was a true patriot, always supportive of the military and his nation, despite not having served himself. He exemplified what it meant to be an American, advocating for and uplifting those who dedicated their lives to service. His caring nature extended beyond his personal circle; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, never shying away from a difficult situation and often bringing laughter and comfort to those around him.

In a beautiful testament to love and commitment, Victor shared 20 wonderful years with his wife, Marty, before they officially tied the knot on September 17, 2022, in Mechanicsville, Iowa. Their bond was a source of strength and joy, and together they created a loving life filled with warmth and laughter.

Victor is survived by his wife, Marty Davis; his son, Jearum Davis of Tennessee; stepson, Dustin Ohlfest (Cassie); stepdaughter, Katie Bortz (Lee) of Iowa, and bonus son Josh Holets of Iowa; and five cherished grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister, Jerri Upton of Tennessee, and brother, W. Brian Davis of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Franklin Davis, and Shelby Jean Spradley, as well as his brothers, Tommy and Lonnie Jr., and sister, Tammy.

A man of many passions, Victor loved fishing and golf, but nothing compared to the time he spent with his family—his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. His laughter was infectious, and his caring spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Victor’s legacy will live on through the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the joy he brought to his family and friends.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later time to celebrate Victor and the memories he created with all who were fortunate enough to know him. In this time of grief, we remember Victor Davis for the love he gave and the laughter he shared. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.

The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to all of the staff at UIHC, in Iowa City, who was ever involved in his care; and to the staff at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon and Compassus Hospice Services whose tender care helped ease the difficulties of his final days.
