Randy Joe Rooks

On November 15th, 2025, Randy Joe Rooks, 55, peacefully passed away due to renal failure caused by septic shock. He spent his final days surrounded by loved ones’ while being cared for by the compassionate staff at Mercy Hospital ICU, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Randy, beloved son of the late Irish Lawrence (maiden: Penny Rooks), was born on December 13th, 1969, in Iowa City, IA. He lived most of his life in the Cedar Rapids area. Randy’s greatest treasures were the positive memories he made with his children, his bond with his sister, lifelong memories with his family and friends and time spent with his dog Sampson. He was the protector of those he cherished and the best “Big Bro”. He was a good man, generous, selfless, funny, supportive, one of three stooges and a free bird. He loved to fish, and his big blue eyes and infectious smile were unforgettable.

He will be missed and survived by his sisters: Heather ”Lil Sis” and Summer; children: Makayla, Allie and Robert; aunt: Joy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Randy is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Robert Dale and Dora Mae Rooks; aunts and uncles: Bob, Donni, Tami and Gina; and niece, Madison

"May Randy’s wings soar through the heavenly skies with the beauty and radiance of the sun. May each beam pierce and dissipate the clouds gloom, worry and unjust. Allowing each beam to warm the hearts and uplift the spirit of all”.  poem written by his cousin Nick M.
