Johnny A. Johnson

Johnny A. Johnson, 84, of Adel, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Adel Acres Care Center. Johnny was born on January 12, 1941, in Adel, Iowa to John and Louise (Conelly) Johnson. He graduated from Adel High School in 1959, serving as class president. In 1963 he was united in marriage to Judy (Kirk) Johnson and they had two children, Johnny A. Johnson lV and Kristine K. Johnson (Canney).

He worked construction with his father in Johnson & Johnson Construction for many years. The landscape of Adel is dotted with many houses they built together. Later he worked as a rural route mail carrier in the area for the United States Postal Service before retirement. Johnny enjoyed traveling the backroads with his dog Willy, reading history, bird watching, planting enormous gardens to give away produce, and all things Rocks! He told many stories of his adventures with his boyhood friends collecting rocks on the sandbars. He had an extensive collection of exquisite and unique rocks he collected throughout his lifetime. He could tell you when and where he found each one of them.

He is survived by his sister, Sue Dickerson of Hollister, CA and his daughter, Kristy (Tim) Canney of Adel, IA. He loved his beautiful granddaughters, Katie (Brian) Fyfe, Haley (Ryan) Vandall and Sydney (Josh) Cheek. His great-grandchildren always brought a smile to his face! Addison, Daniel, James & Johnny Fyfe and Leeland & Ellie Vandall. He was expecting his 3rd great-granddaughter in December. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and his son.

No services are planned per Johnny’s wishes. A private family burial will take place in the future. Memorial donations may be directed in Johnny’s honor to the Puppy Jake Foundation, 3101 104th St., Suite 2, Urbandale, IA 50322.
