Charles Joseph Hageman
Charles Joseph Hageman, 79, lifelong resident of Monticello, Iowa, passed away at his home on November 18, 2025. An “Acknowledgement of Worth” will be held at the Z-Barn at 19243 Stone Bridge Road, Monticello, IA from 12PM-4PM on November 23, 2025.
Charles is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donita; his son, Nathan (Myla) Hageman and their two daughters, Kenyon (Keke) and Marjorie (Marzie); daughter, Heather (Tim) Longoria; son, Benjamin (Emily) Hageman; and his siblings: Ann (Mike) Mohnsen, Elaine Nelson, Denny Hageman, Roger (Denise) Hageman, and Brian (Whitney) Hageman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doris, and brother Allen.
Charles was born in Cascade, Iowa, in 1946, the son of Urban and Grace (Leibold) Hageman, and grew up on a farm just outside of Monticello, IA. He married Donita Ann Zimmerman on November 27, 1970.
He served in the Army in Fort Lewis Washington and then worked for Shell Gasoline and then Thermogas for several years, making sure that households around the Jones County area were supplied with propane, no matter the time of night or the weather. Before retirement, he expertly drove a semi-trailer for Monk Construction, hauling large construction equipment. Upon retiring, he and his wife ran their business, Whispering Pines Ornamental Concrete & More.
Charles loved mowing lawn, using crazy emojis in the family text thread, woodworking, and good food (especially sweets). He was a tender-hearted soul who took in one-eyed cats (Miss Kitty), and made sure his birds were well-fed. He enjoyed watching Hell Road and Doc Martin, getting mail (or making other people get the mail for him), reading sci-fi, and philosophical discussions. He was a renaissance man who could figure out how to build anything and fix anything that was broken, except for his Samsung phone, which he hated with a passion.
Charles was a special man, quiet, kind, and creative with an oddball sense of humor. He noticed everything but said little. He loved his family deeply, and he will be missed so much by all who knew him.
