Travis James Burk
Travis James Burk, 49, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025. He was born in Jefferson, Iowa, on September 29, 1975, to Jim and Linda (Patterson) Burk, Travis grew up in Minburn, Iowa, and attended Adel-DeSoto-Minburn schools, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a love for sports.
Travis was a proud graduate of Iowa State University, where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering and served as president of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He later received his law degree from the University of Iowa and practiced law in both Kansas and Iowa for over 20 years.
A devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Travis was known for his generous spirit, sharp mind, and deep empathy. He never missed an opportunity to express how blessed he felt in life and was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He had a remarkable way of making others feel seen and valued.
Travis had an unshakable love for Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball—he was a walking encyclopedia of stats, stories, and enthusiasm, which he proudly passed on to his son, Gabe. His passion was infectious and often brought people together. He was actively involved in the youth and men’s ministries at Lutheran Church of Hope in Ankeny. Travis’s greatest source of pride was his son, Gabe, and he treasured every moment they shared.
Travis is survived by his son, Gabe; former wife, Claudia; mother, Linda Burk; brothers, Joe (Nikki) and Nate (Joy); and nieces and nephews, Izaak, Ethan, Ellerson, Tiernan, Breslyn, and Callihan. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Burk.
Travis’s warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Memorial services will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope in Ankeny on Saturday, May 17. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service. In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a trust fund for Gabriel.
