Stephen Thomas Touhey

Stephen Thomas Touhey of Montrose, Iowa passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 10, 1947, in Keokuk Iowa to Kenneth and K. Marguerite Medley Touhey. Stephen graduated from Keokuk High School in 1965 and later from Culver Stockton College. After college, he worked at Foote Mineral and eventually retired from the Dial Corporation in 2009 after many dedicated years. Stephen was a sports enthusiast, especially fond of tennis. He carried his passion for tennis into his adult life, playing through his 40’s. In addition to his love for sports, Stephen enjoyed casinos, sharing stories, cheering on his grandkids at their sporting events and creating lasting memories with family. Nothing made him prouder than his children and grandchildren, never failing to greet them with a high five or fist bump.

He is survived by his former wife, Rosemary Beaty Touhey, and their children: Leah (Bryan) Hufendick, Stephanie (Matt) Hargrave, Lindsay Touhey, and Thomas Touhey. He was a proud Grandpa to Amber Conley (Matt), Laney Hufendick, Brandt Hufendick, Arianna Thrush, Izic Mackey, Noah Mackey, Emma Mackey, and Logan Touhey. Also, three great-grandchildren; Hayden Yeisley, Kinnick Yeisley and Hunter Yeisley.

He is also survived by his sister, Jane (Steve) Riter, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Cora Touhey; his father and step-mother, Kenneth and Lenore Touhey; his mother, K. Marguerite Medley Touhey; his aunt, Evelyn Touhey High; his uncle, Max Medley; his step-sister Judith Buss Summers; and his brother, Kenneth Touhey.

A service to honor Stephen’s life will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 28th at 1pm. Following the service, there will be a celebration of life for family and friends at the Sandbar restaurant in Montrose, IA from 2-4.
