Richard Andrew Knock

Richard Andrew Knock, 92, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.  He was born June 12, 1932 near Parkersburg, son of Andy and Elizabeth (Alberts) Knock.  He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1949.  He married Doris Ann Hampel of Allison, Iowa in 1952.

He served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, 3 months in Guam and 15 months in occupied Japan.  He then returned to Iowa to attend college and graduated from the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa College of Law with a degree of Juris Doctor in 1961.  He was admitted to the practice of law before the Iowa Supreme Court in 1961 and the US Supreme Court in 1964.  He entered duty with the FBI as a Special Agent in October 1961 and served in that capacity for 5 years.

Richard returned to Iowa in 1966 and joined Robert Mershon & Don Snow in the practice of law.  He continued that practice through 2014.  He was a lifetime member of the Amvets and American Legion.  He also was a member and past president of the Black Hawk County Bar Association.  He served as a member of the Board of Education for the Cedar Falls School District from 1971-1975.  He was certified as a 50 year member of the Iowa State Bar Association in June 2011.  He served as a member of the Black Hawk County Civil Service Commission for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris.  He is survived by two daughters, Roxanne Stone and Leslie Knock both of Cedar Falls; two grandsons, Dean Stone (Beth) and Adam Stone and two great grandsons, Dylan and Gavin Stone.

Cremation was exercised at Richard’s request with burial at Hillside Cemetery of Cedar Falls.  No formal service will be held.  Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Historical Society and/or the Parkersburg Historical Society.
