Virginia taught First grade for 1 year in Garner, Iowa followed by being a bookkeeper at DX Sunray in Waterloo for 6 years. She was a state champion in both sports, most recently inducted into the Iowa State USBC Hall of Fame in 2017. She taught Sunday School for 47 years at Waterloo First United Methodist Church.
Virginia was considered a second mom by many and could usually be found with a pair of hair cutting scissors in her purse. She was known to be a jack of many trades including electrician, barber, seamstress, framer, carpet layer and her beloved duct tape fixes! When her children were young she was a den mother for Cub Scouts and leader for Camp Fire Girls. She was thrilled to take a trip to Scotland with her father and sister, play golf there and visit their family castle. She took annual trips to California to visit her sister go to 49er games, and play golf. The family enjoyed years of camping, fishing and spending time at the farm.
Virginia enjoyed being active even into her later years; going to municipal band concerts, UNI men's basketball and was a season ticket holder for UNI women's volleyball where she supported former Sunday school students and children of friends. She was an avid San Francisco 49er and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Anyone who knew her had heard that she couldn't smell or taste but loved food!
Services will be held Friday, March 28 at Waterloo First United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm followed by refreshments. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm at the Church.
Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date. She will go to her final resting place this summer.
