Judy Rae Prettyman (Brown)

Judy Rae Prettyman (Brown), 78, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Judy was born on December 29, 1946, in Ottumwa, IA, to Millard Ernest Brown and Lillie Marie Hibler. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1965 and went on to build a fulfilling career as a sales representative with the Iowa Lottery, where she worked for over 20 years. Her warm personality and dedication made her a beloved colleague and friend.

Judy had a heart full of love for her family and friends. She cherished the time spent with her granddaughters, taking them shopping and out to eat at their favorite restaurant, Olive Garden. She had a special gift for staying connected with her friends, always remembering to send thoughtful Hallmark cards for every occasion.

An animal lover at heart, Judy treated her pets like royalty, offering them the same kindness and devotion she extended to everyone in her life. She found great joy in fishing trips to Branson, MO. Her love for her community was evident in her role as secretary for the South Des Moines Little League, where she helped support young athletes. Later in life, she also dedicated time to teaching, finding fulfillment in helping others learn and grow.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Lillie. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Terry Prettyman.

A memorial service and visitation will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to Barbara DeHeck for being a generous friend to Judy.
