Clifford Duane Medberry
Clifford Duane Medberry, born on November 22, 1934, to Charles Max Medberry and Vina May (Dodge) Medberry at their home on Franklin Street in Elgin Iowa, passed away on March 3, 2025, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.
Growing up on a farm, he attended the Lime Kiln School and could truthfully say he walked uphill both ways to and from school, as he sometimes walked over a hill via a logging trail. Cliff later graduated from Elgin High School in the Class of 1952. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1956 and was commissioned into the Air Force that fall. Cliff proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1960. Cliff worked for the United States Post Office from 1993 until 2001 as a rural delivery carrier.
On August 16, 1959, he married Elinor Lucille Wiley and to this union 3 children were born: Scott, Janet, and Kevin.
After leaving the Air Force, Cliff and Ellie farmed for many years southwest of Elgin. As farming continued, Cliff realized computers would be important in all their lives. He purchased an Apple 3 and that opened the door for a new learning experience for the whole family. During the time when the children were home Cliff and Ellie rarely missed an event they were involved in. Cheering them on to victory or praising their efforts in defeat brought great joy to their lives.
As a young boy, Cliff loved sledding down the farm hills, but dreamed of a motor on the sled to take him to the top of the hill so he could enjoy going down more times. Thus, began his quest of the ideal solution. No surprise that he was one of the first in the neighborhood to own a snowmobile. But the snow of winter only lasted a couple of months, so when four-wheelers became available, he was excited to have one. He and several friends enjoyed these machines for years and right to the end of his life his passion for these machines remained a cherished part of his life, symbolized by a photo of his beloved four-wheeler on his residence door.
Cliff is survived by his wife, Ellie, and sons; Scott (Poonam Sharma), and Kevin (Patty Mertz) and grandchildren; Priya, Andrew, and Nicole. Also surviving are his sister, Barbara Ness, sister-in-law, Orla Wiley, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding Cliff in death were his grandparents, parents and his daughter, Janet, who died on Father's Day, June 20, 2004.
