Robert Henry Thimmesch
Robert Henry Thimmesch, 92, of Marion, Iowa passed away June 13, 2025. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the New Albin Community Center. Inurnment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 AM – 12 PM, Thursday, June 26th at the New Albin Community Center. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Robert was born on September 28, 1932, in New Albin, Iowa, the son of Henry and Helen (Arndt) Thimmesch. He received his GED from Kee High School in Lansing, IA in 1963. Robert was united in marriage to Donna Hurley at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Church in New Albin on September 22, 1962. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1949-1953. Robert then served in the United States Navy from 1953-1970 and in the Reserves until 1979. After his service in the military, he worked as a machinist at Trane Company in La Crosse, WI, retiring in 1994. Robert had attended St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in New Albin. He was a member of the VFW. Robert enjoyed auctions, rummage sales, gardening, and visiting with friends on the park bench in New Albin. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Wendy Stone (Tim) of Anamosa; four grandchildren, Brandon Stone (Emily) of Marion, Chelsea Behel of Anamosa, Lauren Stone (Aaron Stark) of Marion, and Ethan Stone of Anamosa; five great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Conlan, and Cade Stone of Marion and Madden and Brayton Behel of Anamosa; and a sister-in-law, Ann Thimmesch of Topeka, KS.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and siblings, Goldie Zeimet (Tom) and Leo Thimmesch.
The family extends special thanks to Mercy Hospice, Lesa K., RN at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids and the Hiawatha Care Center staff for the amazing care and compassion they provided to Dad in his last days.
