Thomas James Osweiler

Thomas James Osweiler, a beloved brother, uncle, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully from natural causes on July 8, 2025, at his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born on December 12, 1957, in Sigourney, Iowa, to Robert William Osweiler and Marilyn Lou Bickford.

Growing up in a large family, Tom was one of nine siblings, surrounded by love and shared memories. He is survived by his sisters Mary Gent (James Gent), Colleen Johnston, and Becky Osweiler, as well as his brothers, Kurt Osweiler, Scott Osweiler and sister-in-law Jane Osweiler. Tom is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with his nieces and nephews, often attending their events and celebrations.

Tom graduated from English Valleys High School and furthered his education at the University of Iowa, where he achieved a BBA, MA and MBA. Since 1998, he devoted his professional life to his alma mater helping students as a Financial Aid Advisor at the University of Iowa.

An avid Hawkeye fan, Tom's enthusiasm for life extended beyond his professional commitment. He had a passion for gardening, outdoor activities, traveling, and volunteering activities, including participating in the Holiday Lights at the Lake supporting The Bird House, along with various events at the University of Iowa.

Tom was a loving and compassionate person, always ready to support those around him. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his gentle spirit, and his unwavering devotion to family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Marilyn, as well as his brothers Loras and Jeff Osweiler, sister Rhonda Osweiler, and sister-in-law Margaret Osweiler.

In honor of his wishes, there will be no traditional funeral service. Instead, a celebration of Tom's life will take place at a later date, where family will gather to share stories, memories, and laughter, much like Tom would have wanted.

Memorial contributions may be sent to The Bird House, Hospice Home of Johnson County, 8 Lime Kiln Lane NE, Iowa City 52240
