Lois V. Lawson
Lois V. Lawson, 92, passed away on July 30th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a lengthy illness. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Born in Makoti, ND, Lois was the daughter of Angus and Linda (Viestenz) Barker. She grew up primarily in Fargo, ND, graduating from Fargo High School in 1950. She attended North Dakota State University briefly before beginning a career in banking. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Ken. The two were married in 1953 and shared nearly 65 years of life together.
The couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa, where they raised four children. Lois worked at Security National Bank for 20 years and was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church, serving in various roles, including as Council President. She found joy in gardening and spent many hours tending to her flowers, and vegetable garden — often with the help of her children, who remember those weeding sessions well.
After retirement, Lois and Ken moved to Bella Vista, AR, where she enjoyed over 30 years surrounded by the natural beauty of the area. Lois became involved in beading and embroidery, sharing her creativity as a member of the local chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. She crafted many beautiful pieces and found joy in the community of crafters. She was also an active member of United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, her parents, and three siblings. She is survived by her four children: Mark (Kathy) Lawson of Spencer, IA; Robin Hoye of Fort Collins, CO; Dawn Lawson of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Jeff (Teresa) Lawson of Savage, MN; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; her brother Paul (Nancy) Barker of AZ; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23 at United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Rd, Bella Vista, AR 72715.
Lois’ children would like to thank The Views of Marion, the ER and ICU staff at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, and Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids, all who took loving care of Lois and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Rd, Bella Vista, AR 72715.
