Joseph “Joe” John Hensley

Joseph “Joe” John Hensley, 80, of Spillville, Iowa, died Wednesday July 16, 2025, at WinnMed Hospital in Decorah.  His wishes were cremation.  A service will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is handling the arrangements.

Joe was born February 20, 1945 in Ridgeway, Iowa, the son of Archie and Viola (Pittelko) Hensley. Joseph graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco in 1963 and then attended Drake University.  He was employed with Donaldson Company in Cresco until his retirement in 2008.  During that time he also did work with soil conservation and loved helping a coworker that raised angus cattle.  The whole time I’ve known him he has had  to look at any pastures with angus when we’d drive by.  Joe and Nora were married October 11, 2008.  Over the years he did a lot of work with Lutheran World Relief/ World Hunger.  A few years he played some softball through Donaldson’s for a few years.  He became quite interested in watching the bald eagles and peregrine falcons through the Raptor Resource Project and several springs were highlighted going to the banding of the little peregrines at Great Spirit Bluff.  He also loved the International Owl Center in Houston, MN.

Joe is survived by his wife, Nora, of 16 years, sister Becky, and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and baby brother Wayne.
