Nelson "Fuzzy" Whaley

Nelson “Fuzzy” Whaley, 79, of Marengo, passed away January 4, 2025. He was born on June 9, 1945, in Hopkins, Missouri to Harley and Merle Whaley. 

Nelson grew up on a farm north of Hopkins, MO with his family.  As a child, Nelson liked to ride his bike and spend time outside on the farm. He graduated from North Nodaway R-VI High School in 1963.  In 1967, Nelson was drafted into the Army and served in Germany as a mechanic during the Vietnam War. When Nelson returned home from the Army in 1973, he worked in numerous factories in southwestern and southeastern Iowa. He resided in several small towns in his career, including Creston, IA, Ladora, IA and Marengo IA. He fathered a son, Cody, in 1990.  Nelson retired from Whirlpool in Amana, IA in 2007 while residing in Ladora, IA. He enjoyed playing cards, going for walks with friends, and riding in his sons UTV around rural Iowa County. He also enjoyed watching WWE Wresting several nights a week.  He is survived by his son, Cody (Hailie) and grandson, Rogan. 

Nelson was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Whaley.
