John Jay Field
John Jay Field, 61, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to Heaven on January 24th, 2025.
John was born to Jay and Anna on December 14th, 1963, in Fairfax, Missouri. He was raised on a farm outside of Oregon, Missouri, graduating from South Holt High School in 1982.
John was deeply passionate about music, finding joy in both creating and sharing it with others. A gifted musician, he performed live at a variety of venues, from bustling bars to serene church gatherings. His talent knew no bounds—he could effortlessly play a wide range of instruments, including guitar, drums, accordion, and piano. Remarkably, he never needed sheet music, relying instead on his extraordinary ability to play by ear. Beyond performing, he poured his heart into writing and producing his own music, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and devotion to his craft. For lasting memories of John, you can find his music here: https://soundcloud.com/bleafiss123 and https://www.youtube.com/user/bleafiss123.
John brought laughter and joy to everyone, fortunate enough to know him. Witty, sharp, and endlessly funny, he had a knack for finding humor in any situation and always knew just the right thing to say—usually with a mischievous twist. His clever observations and quick comebacks could turn even the most mundane moment into a hilarious memory.
A natural entertainer, John loved performing comedic skits, delighting friends and family with his creativity and timing. His humor wasn’t just about getting a laugh; it was his way of bringing people together, breaking the ice, and brightening the day of everyone around him. Though his comedic genius made him the life of every gathering, he was equally admired for his intelligence and warmth. He made those who loved him laugh until they cried, and his legacy of humor and wit will continue to bring smiles to our faces.
John had a gift for bringing people together, and his kitchen was the heart of his home. He loved cooking for family and friends, creating meals that nourished both the body and soul. For John, cooking was an act of love, and every dish, whether a cherished family recipe or a new creation, brought joy to those around them. More than a cook, he was a connector, making every gathering special with laughter, stories, and togetherness. John will be dearly missed but forever remembered whenever loved ones gather around the table.
John was preceded in death by his father Jay, mother Anna and his sister Emily.
John is survived by his sister Marsha; his brother Phillip; his children Brandi, Ashley, Kindsay, TD, and Madison; his grandchildren Vern, Ashtin, Rhett, Dante, and Saraiya; and many more beloved family members and friends.
John will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as someone who lived life with laughter and left the world a little brighter for having been in it
