Jerry Doyle

Jerry Doyle, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025 at the Oldorf Hospice House.

Jerry was born in Independence, IA on May 6, 1939, the youngest child of John and Elizabeth Doyle. He was raised in Ryan, IA and moved to Fayette, IA as a teenager. He graduated from Fayette High School in 1957.

Shortly after graduation, Jerry enlisted into the Army and served honorably for 3 years. He was stationed in Alaska and Turkey. After his discharge, he was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency for another 3 years. During that time, Jerry was based in Washington D.C. and El Salvador. Jerry entered a career in the United States Postal Service. For several years he was a Letter Carrier in Cedar Rapids, IA. He later became Postmaster of Ryan, IA and then Epworth, IA until his retirement in 1992.

Jerry was united in marriage to Catherine “Kate” Burke on May 12, 1962. They were blessed with three sons. Kate was the love of Jerry’s life for 62 years and passed away in 2024.

Jerry is survived by two sisters: Betty McMahon, Delores Callahan, and brother: Larry Doyle. His sons: David (Kim) Doyle of Coggon, IA, Danny (Jill) Doyle of Farley, IA, and DJ (Bonnie) Doyle of Iowa City, IA. Eight grandchildren: Jon (Amy) Doyle, Kristin (Travis) Voss, Mackenzie Doyle, Connor Doyle, Jack Doyle, Mary Kate (Lake) Rabel, Maggie Doyle (Ben McAtee) and Jacob Doyle. Six great grandchildren: Kyle Doyle, Ryne Doyle, Flynn Doyle, Ava Voss, Everly Voss, and May Rabel.

He is preceded in death by his wife Kate: mother and father, two brothers: John Doyle, Mark Doyle and sister Lorraine Styles.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, IA on Monday January 27 at 10 AM. A visitation will precede the mass at the church starting at 9 AM. A burial will be performed at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Calvary Cemetery in Ryan, IA.
