Glen Richard Hockemeyer

Glen Richard Hockemeyer, 81, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, January 24, 2025, with his family by his side. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Grundy Center American Lutheran Church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at American Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch following the service.

Glen was born to Elson and Esther (Brenneke) on March 13, 1943, in New Haven, Indiana.  He attended Woodlan High School in Woodburn, Indiana where he graduated in 1961. Upon graduation, he moved to Iowa and attended Iowa State University for a quarter.  He then worked for Hawkeye Steel for a period of time before he started farming with his brother Allen.

On August 19, 1967, he married the love of his life Neva Krull.  In 1970, they moved to rural Holland, Iowa where they began farming on their own and raising their 3 sons - Brad, Kevin and Jeff.  After residing on the farm for 35 years Glen and Neva moved to Grundy Center. In 2023, Glen was diagnosed with cancer which was a challenge he and Neva faced together.

Glen was a devoted farmer. To him, farming was not merely a job but a passion, particularly when it came to caring for his cattle, reflecting his love for animals. His heart was not only in the fields but also in the joys of family life. Glen cherished the times spent vacationing with his loved ones in the landscapes of Minnesota and Canada. An avid outdoorsman, he found delight in hunting and fishing alongside his sons and grandchildren, creating life long memories. Glen was also a committed member of the American Lutheran Church, where his faith and community involvement were central to his life. His legacy will live on through the love he shared and the lives he touched.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Neva; children Brad (Kathryn), Kevin (Deborah), and Jeff (Caryn); grandchildren Sarah, Abby, Tyler, Grant, Owen, and Makenna; bonus grandchildren Madison (Travis) Kuester, Trevor and Gabe McMartin; bonus great grandchild Bryson Kuester; sister Lois Schuerenberg; brother Allen (Mary) Hockemeyer; brother-in-law Don Krull; sister-in-law Barbara Krull and many nieces and nephews. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Howard and Vernon, brother-in-law Richard Schuerenberg, and brother-in-law Roger Krull.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Glen’s name be directed to Unity Point Hospice, Grundy Center Memorial Hospital, or American Lutheran Church.
