Cynthia Ann Tillman
Cynthia Ann (“Sis”) Tillman of Clermont IA passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on January 22, 2025. Visitation will be held on Friday May 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center in Festina IA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Festina IA, followed by a luncheon at the Community Center. Interment will occur at a later date.
Cynthia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Tillman of Clermont IA; son Mark (Mary Lou) Tillman of Waucoma IA; daughter Patty (Lowell) Johnson of Madison WI; and son Edward (Suzanne) Tillman of Roseville MN; grandchildren Laura Niquette, Kristin Niquette, Grace Tillman, and Adam Tillman; and step-grandchildren Tina Schmidt Cahoy, Janet Schmidt Snyder, Denise Schmidt, and Donald Schmidt.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lucy Massman; brothers James Massman and Donald Massman; a sister, Helen Loesch; nephews Warren Massman and Jim Massman, and sisters-in-law Julia Massman, Verna Massman, and Barb Massman.
Cynthia was born March 10, 1936 in Festina IA, and graduated from Calmar High School in 1954. She married Robert Tillman on July 28, 1959, and they raised their three children in Waterloo IA, where they attended countless school activities, cheering for their children in all their endeavors. Cynthia was a secretary at the University of Northern Iowa, and especially enjoyed her time working with students and staff there. She and Robert relished their retirement years, traveling in the United States, and spending winters in southern Texas and summers in northeast Iowa. Cynthia loved yellow roses, a good card game, and Coca Cola (nothing else would do). She was known for her cooking, especially her turkey dressing, potato salad, maid-rites, and cookies. She loved well and was well-loved.
Cynthia believed strongly in the mission of Catholic Charities, an organization providing “a tangible response to the Gospel call to care for the least among us.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cynthia’s memory to Catholic Charities, www.catholiccharitiesusa.org.
