Marjorie "Midge" Craven
Marjorie (Midge) Craven, 79, of Columbus Junction, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). Services will be Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 10:00 and services at 11:30 followed by food and fellowship at the Columbus Junction American Legion. Memorials can be directed to CJ United Methodist Church, Louisa County Shrine Club of Columbus Junction or Hospice of Washington County.
Marjorie was born to Frank (Barney) and Cora (Eakins) Mattison in Washington, IA on June 21, 1945. She grew up living in Natural Gas Pipelines’ housing in Harper, Iowa as that is where her father worked. After graduating from Sigourney High School in 1963, she attended Paris Hair Academy in Cedar Rapids. This is where she met her husband of 51 years, Michael, and acquired the name of Midge.
Midge was a practicing cosmetologist for over 50 years, retiring in 2022. She worked in salons in Keota, Washington and in Columbus Junction before opening her salon on main street Special Effects.
She was a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, Columbus Junction American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Quilts of Valor, Louisa County Shrine Ladies, and Cedarcrest Country Club. She enjoyed quilting, golfing, gardening, shopping and spending time with friends and family. She and Michael wintered in Texas for over 20 years. After Michael’s passing Midge continued to spend her winters in Texas. Her Texas family was a big part of her life.
Midge will be deeply missed by her daughters Michele (Allen Grote) Robertson and Melinda (Jim) Rees both of Columbus Junction. Grandsons, Wesley (Anjela) Robertson, Casey Robertson, Scott (Emily) Crow, Jared (Kasey) Rees and John (Paige) Rees and eleven great grandchildren.
Midge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2016, sister and brother in-law Marilyn and Henry Williams, sister and brother in-law Carolyn and Cleve Stickrod.
