Elmer Lawrence Marting
Elmer Lawrence Marting was born on February 2, 1937, to Elmer F. and Helen (Schmitt) Marting. He passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on February 16, 2025. He shared more than his name with his dad. Both shared the love for family, farming, music and woodcarving. They could see an image in a piece of wood and create a work of art.
He received his Ham Radio license (W0SFK) at the age of 16, beginning his lifelong passion for electronics. After high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. Upon returning to Iowa, he was united in marriage to Carol Y. Heins in 1959. They were blessed with four children.
Starting with his business of Elmer’s Radio and TV, his talent for sales and communications led to his co-ownership in RACOM. For recreation, he obtained his pilot’s license, owning several aircraft, even rebuilding his Taylorcraft. He was actively involved in the Monona Museum which houses his father’s display of hand carved chains. He was an active member and leader of many civic and community organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Lori Huelskamp, Lynn (Jim) Olson, Leanne (Jeff) O’Brien and Larry (Amie Bissonett) Marting. He had four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor Elmer will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 401 South Egbert Street, Monona, Iowa, 52159.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Monona Museum or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
