Dorothy L. White, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, while visiting family in Tampa, Florida

 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 21, 2025. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 am at the Albion cemetery (Sand Road, Albion, Iowa). The service will be followed by a light lunch at Raymon Veterans Park (307 W Johnson St. Albion, Iowa). Family encourages guests to bring lawn chairs for a time of fellowship and reminiscence following the meal. Any memorials can be directed to the family c/o Sherri White (2742A O Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405).

Dorothy was employed at Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa where she retired in 1999.  Dorothy was a caring, gracious person who loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a member of Hillside Church of Christ and frequently attended services at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown. It gave her great joy to spend time with her friends and family. Dorothy loved to travel, frequently crossing the country to see family.

Dorothy was born to Annie & Vernon Files in Council Bluffs, IA. She graduated from Murray High School in 1957. On August 29, 1957, Dorothy was united in marriage to Elvin White in Murray, IA. To this union, five children were born. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elvin, her parents Annie and Vernon, and her sister Kathy. She is survived by her children, Mark White (Denise) of Adel, IA; Ricky White (Tammy) of Brandon, FL; Gary White of Urbandale, IA; Lisa Ruopp of Iowa City, IA; and Sherri White of Cedar Rapids, IA; Grandchildren, Katie Fortune (Nick) of Adel, IA and Matt White (Kit) of Auburn, WA; Jenna White (Jason) and Kelsey White (David) of Valdosta, GA; Danielle White and Andrew White of Greentown, PA; Callista Rubee (Mal) of Iowa City, IA and Leena Ruopp (Frank) of Peoria, IL. Great-grandchildren, Alexei Maier and Juni White along with brothers, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
