Stephen J. Siedel Jr.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen J. Siedel Jr., age 51, who left us unexpectedly on December 30, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Born on September 30, 1974, in Aurora, Colorado, Steve spent a significant portion of his life in his hometown before moving to Cedar Rapids to be closer to his father and grandmother.

Steve's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family and his zest for sports and the many joys of life. He worked in distribution for much of his career, most recently at the Nordstrom Distribution Center in Cedar Rapids. In the months leading up to his passing, he was in the process of starting his own business, revisiting his father’s carpet cleaning venture-a project that reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and his desire to honor his family's legacy.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Carla Elizabeth Siedel, who passed away in 2021, and his father, Stephen John Siedel Sr., who left us in 2025.

He is survived by his sister, Carey Barta, her husband, Scott Barta, and his cherished nephew, Sean Barta, who all reside in Colorado. Steve had a strong bond with his family, and he took immense pride in caring for his father before his passing, staying in close touch with his sister, and actively supporting his nephew in his various pursuits, especially in baseball.

Steve was a towering figure, standing at 6’7”, with a heart as big as his stature. His love for sports was evident, as he played basketball at a high level during his high school years and participated in numerous 3-on-3 tournaments. A devoted fan, he passionately supported teams such as the Kansas Jayhawks, New York Knicks, and New York Giants. His interests extended beyond sports; he had a keen affinity for collecting memorabilia, animals, music, and a particular passion for hot sauce. He was also known for his handy skills, often undertaking small repairs on automobiles and various mechanical projects.

Friends and family will remember Steve for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to bring joy to any gathering. He had a gift for making people laugh and a warmth that drew others to him. His laughter and presence will be profoundly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time to honor Steve’s life and legacy. Details will be provided to those who wish to pay their respects.

In this time of grief, let us remember the bright spirit of Stephen J. Siedel Jr., a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. His memory lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
