Dale Edward Dyke
Dale has been traveling a long, rough road for several years, and he has finally found a smooth and peaceful path ahead.
Dale was born in 1939 in West Union, Iowa, to Lenton and Elinor (Reeder) Dyke. He graduated from North High School in 1958. After graduation, he worked for Hygrade in Postville and H&H Food Service in West Union. He proudly served three years in the National Guard, including six months at Ford Ord, California, alongside five of his close buddies.
After returning home, Dale met Karen Weidemann at the West Union Roller Rink. After a long courtship, they were married on October 22, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. They were blessed with one son, Britt Dale Dyke. In 1963, Dale attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska, where he trained in auto body repair. Dale and Karen lived in Omaha for nine months before returning to West Union.
Dale worked at Falb’s in Elgin before transferring to Falb’s in West Union. In 1969, he opened his own shop in Eldorado, Iowa. Dale took great pride in his work-parts and paint had to match perfectly, or the job was done again. He later expanded into selling used cars, renaming the business Dyke Auto Body and Sales, proudly known as the “Largest Dealer in Eldorado.” One of his greatest joys was seeing his son follow in his footsteps.
Dale enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, playing cards, visiting the casino, boating, weekends at the trailer in Prairie du Chien, and most of all, spending time with his two granddaughters. He and Karen also treasured the ten winters they spent in Mesa, Arizona, where they made many lifelong friends.
In his later years, Dale especially cherished time with his family and his great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Karen Dyke; son, Britt (Lisa) Dyke of West Union; granddaughters, Ashley (Matt) Henderson of West Union, Erica (Jason) Cannon in Hawkeye; great-grandchildren, Rowan, Cooper, and Blakley Henderson, Kendal Soukup and Charley and Macy Cannon and his siblings, Ron Dyke and Darlene Cline. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Lenton and Elinor Dyke; sister, JoAnn Paskey; in-laws, Carl and Laura Weidemann and brothers-in-law, John Weidemann and Charlie Weidemann.
Visitation for Dale will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 4 – 7:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, IA and again on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 10 – 11:00 am also at the church.
