Charles “Chuck” LeRoy Koopman

Charles “Chuck” LeRoy Koopman age 89, passed away December 27, 2025, peacefully surrounded by love. Charles was born on January 15, 1936, in Newhall, IA. A lifelong farmer and trucker, he was a man who understood hard work, early mornings, and the quiet satisfaction of providing for his family through honest labor. As a farmer, he raised cattle, hogs, chickens and row crops. His trucking career was for twenty-eight years. He drove over three million miles throughout the lower forty-eight United States.

He was a God-loving Christian whose faith guided his life. He didn’t preach loudly, but lived his beliefs through kindness, integrity, and humility. He was quiet and gentle by nature, a steady presence whose love was shown through actions rather than words.

A devoted husband, he cherished his wife and built a life rooted in commitment, respect, and love. Together they raised five children — four sons and one daughter. He was a proud father, and his family was his greatest joy. Chuck had previously been active as a 4-H leader. He was a past member of Central Presbyterian Church in Newhall where he was an elder for many years. Later in life, his wife and him went on several trips by bus with friends. He loved running his tractors and combine, finding great joy in the rhythm of planting season and cherishing the rewards of harvest. As the years passed and his health declined, he was proudly “promoted” to supervisor, overseeing the fields from his Polaris Ranger. He also loved selling cattle at the sales barn, watching the livestock he had raised go to the highest bidder. In every season, he took deep pride in the results of his hard work and the life he built through dedication, perseverance, and faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary of Newhall; three sons, Daniel Koopman (Debbie) of Cedar Rapids, Dean Koopman of Elberon, and Duane Koopman (Michelle) of Newhall; his only daughter, Brenda Ostling (Wayne) of The Villages, FL; grandchildren, Brooke Strasser (Cory), Brandie Gross (Nathan), Rebecca Andersen (Brandon), Dustin Koopman, Eric Koopman, Sean Koopman (Cassie), Brian Ostling, Trevor Ostling, and Nicholas Ostling; six step grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Johnson, sisters-in-law, Sharon Beatty, Mae Buelow, and Cheryl Beatty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Alfred and Viola (Werning) Koopman; son, Dennis Koopman (LuElla Womochil); siblings, Delbert Koopman (Yvonne), Janice Knipp (Russell), Karolyn Mittman; and Marlyn Koopman at birth; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Johnson, Charles Beatty (wives, Marcella and Suzanne), Donald Beatty (Sherri), Ronald Beatty, Keith Beatty, Walter Beatty, and Raymond Buelow.
