Barbara Kay Wiebel

Barbara Kay Wiebel passed away on December 30, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Her visitation and funeral services will be at Peace Church of Christ United at 414 Maple St, Bennett, Iowa with Pastor Scott Meyer and Steve Boedeker officiating. Visitation will be Sunday January 4, 2026, from 1-4 pm and funeral services will be Monday January 5, 2026, at 10 am with lunch to follow at the church. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland.

Barb was born December 31, 1937, to Ludwig and Freda Boettcher Klahn. She was valedictorian of the Wheatland class of 1955 and then attended AIC in Davenport. She married Eldon (Shorty) Wiese on December 15, 1957, and lived in Lincoln, NE while Shorty was in the Air Force. They moved back to Wheatland in 1960, farmed with Ludwig, and had 2 sons Michael and Gregory. Shorty died in a truck accident in 1968.

Barb married Gerald Wiebel in 1973 and welcomed his children- Jerry, Toni, Beth, Larry, and Terry into her life. Together they enjoyed farming, selling Dekalb seed, and lots of travel with friends to places including Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska.

After Gerald passed in 1991, Barb married Everett Ruchotzke in 1994, and they lived in Columbus Junction. They spent many winters in Las Vegas and enjoyed going to Kinnick Stadium to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeye football team. After Everett passed in 2017 Barb moved back to Wheatland and lived on the street she grew up on.

Barb worked in banking, accounting, and insurance but her most satisfying work was expressing her faith as organist at many area churches where she uniquely tied her music in with the scriptures. She had been organist at Peace Church since 2018.

Barb is survived by her children, Michael (Teri) Wiese, and Gregory (Terri) Wiese; stepchildren, Jerry (Paula) Wiebel, Toni (Larry) Bricker, Beth (Kevin) Kahl, Larry (Nancy) Wiebel, Terry (Renee) Wiebel, Pam (Don) Brown, and Debbi (Randy) Murry; 23 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Peace Church or Pine Hill Cemetery and sent to Greg Wiese at PO Box 308, Wheatland, Iowa 52777.
