Allen R. Pape
Allen Richard Pape, 87, of McGregor, IA, passed away on December 9, 2025 at home with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held on December 20, 2025 at 1 PM at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Interment will be at the Eldorado Cemetery, with a light lunch to follow.
Allen “Butch” Pape was born on October 19, 1938, to Elmer and Stella (Trapp) Pape in West Union, Iowa. After graduating from North High School, Butch joined his father on the family farm and on November 14, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Kay (Helgerson). He continued farming alongside his brother Dean and often lent a hand to his brother, Dale, with the crops. The three brothers worked closely together-baling hay, planting corn, and sharing many memories over card games with the neighborhood coffee cloche. Over the years, Butch and Dean raised thousands of feeder pigs, earning the Pape Brothers a reputation for having some of the very best.
Butch and Wanda were blessed with five children. He took great joy in being involved with St. Peter Lutheran Church and in caring for his mother. After their children were grown, Butch retired from farming, and he and Wanda moved to Lake Delton, Wisconsin, where he worked in security as an Asset Protection Officer at Ho-Chunk Casino.
When Dean became ill, Butch and Wanda returned to the home farm, and Butch later worked at Rupp Captive Aire until relocating to McGregor in 2008. He enjoyed his morning walks with their dog, Bugsy, always ready to stop for a friendly chat along the way. In his golden years, Butch often said his two favorite things were "eating and talking". Butch lived a full and faithful life, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Stella Pape; Verge Fels, Marge Chamberlain, Irene (Boots) Moen, Elma Darnall, Dale, and Dean Pape. Grandchildren Zach Ruroden, Bruce Balk, Allen J. Pape, Ashley Massman and son-in-law, Alan Balk.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Wanda Kay Pape; his children Teresa (Lavern) Weinschenk, Annette Balk, Brenda (Larry) Olson, Lisa (John) Massman and Allen Dean (Katrina VanSickle) Pape; grandchildren, Colt (Karson Deeny) Ruroden, Danny (Josh) Olson, Dean Olson, Allen (Hayley) Massman, Andy Massman, Amanda (Chris Lee) Massman, CoreyAnn Hall; great-grandchildren Kaden, Alaynah, and Remi Ruroden, Braden and Raelyn Massman, Wesson Hogenson, Wyatt Vagts and Lily Kay Pape.
