Shirley Ann Hines

Shirley Ann Hines (April 15, 1938 – August 18, 2025)

On Monday, August 18, 2025, Shirley Ann Hines, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away under hospice care at the age of 87.

Born Shirley Ann Myers on April 15, 1938, in her hometown of Oskaloosa, Iowa, she was the cherished daughter of Raymond and Edith Myers. Shirley’s life was marked by her deep devotion to family and the joy she found in nurturing those around her.

She met the love of her life, Donald Lee Hines, and they were married on December 13, 1956. Together, they raised six children: Kim, Tom, Stan, Glenn, Pat, and John.

In the spring of 1976, Shirley and Don moved to the country outside of Guttenberg, Iowa, along the Mississippi River. There, they built a home filled with love and warmth, a place cherished by their family for many years.

Shirley was an amazing cook who loved sharing her delicious meals with family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, fishing, and spending treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Alongside her daughter Kim, Shirley owned and operated Oasis, a family-owned lawn ornament business in Millville, for many successful years. After closing the business, she continued her passion for helping others by working with clients through G&G Living Centers and later with Unlimited Services.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Don Hines; sons Tom, Stanley, Glenn, and Pat Hines; brother-in-law Mike Hines; sister-in-law Gertrude Hines; and her parents, Edith and Raymond Myers.

She is survived by her daughter Kim (Robert) Ludovissy Jr., son John (Christine) Hines; daughters-in-law Donna, Monica, Linda and Cathy Hines; brother Bill Cole; brother-in-law Larry (Pat) Hines; sister-in-law Rosey (Don) Sieck-Miller; brother-in-law Terry Hines; sister-in-law Sandy (Wes) Bender; twelve grandchildren—Tabatha, Andy, April, Mike, Matt, Summer, Adam, Sydney, Noelle, Dakota, Jordan, Ashley; nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Promise Land Winery, 39053 Great River Rd, Guttenberg, IA, on October 10, 2025, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Shirley’s warmth, kindness, and steadfast love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Edgewood Convalescent Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
