Ricky Edward Thurn

Ricky Edward Thurn, 62, of Edgewood, Iowa passed away on August 11, 2025, unexpectedly due to injuries sustained in an accident.

Rick was born on January 2, 1963, in Manchester, Iowa to Wayne and Sharyl (Baumgartner) Thurn. He was raised on his family farm outside of Edgewood, where he later raised his family. Rick graduated from Edgewood- Colesburg High School in the class of 1981.

Rick married Tracy Storjohann on June 20, 1987, at Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport, Iowa. They welcomed three daughters to their family. Together, Rick and Tracy worked on their farm, teaching their daughters the strong traits of working hard and loving the land. Rick’s true passion in life was farming and his cattle, which showed when he was recognized in 2023 as Clayton County Cattleman of the Year. He also took great pride in everything he raised and owned, especially his black angus cattle herd.

Along with farming, Rick worked as a welder at EIP Manufacturing for 17 years and Hendersons Truck Equipment for several more years. He also was a true outdoorsman- enjoying hunting, fishing, morel mushroom hunting, playing euchre and riding side by sides.

Rick could be described perfectly as the ‘Salt of the Earth’. He had a generous nature and was known to drop anything when someone needed help. Caregiving was first nature to him, always putting others before himself, no matter how busy he was.

Friends and family were very important to Rick, and he was always eager to talk about his daughters and grandchildren. His shop door was always open, and a cold Busch Light and a good story were always ready to be shared.

Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Tracy; his daughters and sons-in-law, Gina (Cade) Perrinjaquet of Edgewood, Kayla (Ben) Weatherwax of Delhi, and Marissa (Justin) Lueken of Greeley; grandchildren, Lawson, Adalyn, Nova, Easton, Eddie, Remy and Rowan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie (Ivan) Kleinlein and Brenda (Brad) Frieden; Aunts, Carol Thurn, and Evelyn Baumgartner; and many nieces and nephews.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Sharyl; his parents-in-law, Nick “Hoss” and Judy Storjohann; many aunts and uncles, and his special cousin, Randy Thurn, who was more like a brother.

In lieu of flowers and memorials, Rick would love for you to help your neighbor, pay it forward, and enjoy some time in nature.
