Morris G. Sloan, MD

Morris G. Sloan, MD passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Lou. He is survived by his four children, Debbie Yossi (Dennis Yossi, DDS), Alan Sloan, Bob Sloan (Linda), and Mark Sloan (B.K.); six grandchildren, Megan Copeland, Chris Yossi, MD, Elizabeth Sloan, MD (Jonathan Mentesana), Kaydee Sloan, Katie Myers, and Lindsay Sloan; and three great grandchildren.

Morris was born on January 31, 1930, to Morris Sloan, Sr. and Lydia Rate Sloan. He graduated from Valparaiso High School in Indiana. He received his BA degree (1951) and his MD degree (1954) from The University of Iowa. While at The University of Iowa, he met and married Mary Lou Busching on December 21, 1952, in Clarksville, IA. After graduation, the couple lived in Lansing, MI (1954-1955) while Morris completed his internship. Morris and Mary Lou moved to Ft. Polk, LA where he served as a Captain in the US Army (1955-1957). The family then moved to Des Moines, IA where Morris was in Residency at Iowa Methodist Hospital (1957-1960). He became Board Certified in Radiology in 1961 with a nuclear medicine medallion. Morris practiced Radiology in Boone, IA (1960-1987) with Walt Dennert, MD and Mac Jones, MD. Their group also served hospitals in the surrounding towns of Jefferson, Guthrie Center, Ames, Nevada, and Story City. Morris retired in 1987. Morris and Mary Lou enjoyed many winters in Corpus Christi, TX. He loved reading books, traveling, fishing trips to Leech Lake, and was a huge fan of Jeopardy.

Morris Sloan was Past President of the Boone Co. Medical Society and Past Chief of Staff at the Boone Co. Hospital. He held memberships in the AMA, American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, and Iowa Medical Society.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the Boone Co. Hospital or the First United Methodist Church in Boone, IA.
