Benjamin Lewis Higgins, 93, of Maquoketa, IA, passed away on August 16th, 2025. Services will be held on August 23rd, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church in Maquoketa, IA. Visitation starts at 10:00 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, with lunch to follow at Maquoketa Eagles Club.
Benjamin was born on July 5th, 1932, to Claude and Margaret (Smith) Higgins in Clinton, Michigan. In his early twenties, he served his country in the Army’s 8th Engineer Battalion as a Sergeant while stationed in Japan from 1952 to 1954. On October 27th, 1956, Benjamin and Mary Joan (Hughes) were United in Marriage in Maquoketa, IA. He enjoyed fishing, and making bird houses, putting them up all over Jackson County. Whether shooting pool or bowling, Ben was always a natural talent at whatever he chose to spend his time doing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Margaret Higgins, and his son, Mitchell Lewis Higgins.
Benjamin is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Joan Higgins; his son Mark (Diane) Higgins; his three grandchildren, and his three great-grandchildren.
