Paul Stephen DeJong
Paul, Judy, Deidre and Tollif lived across the street from me on Roosevelt Avenue. Paul and I took turns bringing back Coors beer from Colorado before it was available in Iowa. I watched in amazement as he built his own garage and then built an addition to his house. Paul was always there to lend a helping hand if needed. Paul will be missed.
Paul was an incredible force to his family. I was especially impressed by his interactions with his grandchildren and their friends. Paul always made me feel like I was an extension of his family. His death need not be tragic, but celebrated for all he brought to so many. I’m honored to have been included in his circle. Watch our for the stingrays in your afterlife!
I had Mr. DeJong as a professor for Freshman Engineering 101 back in 1979. It was my first college class and when he wrote his name on the chalkboard and I saw that he authored the text book we were using, I knew I was in trouble! He knew my dad, Francis Holland, as an engineer and he used to allude to that in class. He was a very good teacher and I still remember him with a smile. May he rest in peace.
Paul always brought a big smile to my face. He was smart, fun, friendly and always a joy to be around. I have many great memories watching the Clear Lake 4th of July parade with him.
