William "Bill" Kammeyer

William “Bill” Henry Kammeyer, age 86, of Waterloo, IA, passed away at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA September 22, 2024, with his family by his side.
 
Bill was born September 12, 1938, to Carl & Mary Ann (Simmons) Kammeyer.  He married Joyce Carpenter and together they had 4 children.  They later divorced and he went on to marry Gloria J Rose.
 
Bill was instrumental in starting the Waterloo Warriors H.S. hockey program and was also very involved in the Waterloo Blackhawk hockey team as a volunteer assistant trainer.

He graduated from Waterloo East H.S. in 1956 after which he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958 and the Reserves until 1961. Bill served 12 years on the Waterloo School Board and was quite passionate about his time in that role.
 
Bill worked as a supervisor for John Deere Engine Works in Waterloo, IA and retired after 37 years.  He believed in keeping busy.  He owned and operated K-MEYERS Lawn Care and only had “Green” equipment.
 
Bill enjoyed playing golf.  He was left-handed and hit what he called a “controlled slice”. 
In retirement Bill spent his time delivering recreational vehicles across the country for Camping World.  He also shuttled vehicles for Dick Witham Ford and has stacks of business cards and ball caps that he collected from all his travels.  He enjoyed meeting weekly at Cabin Coffee with his church group, his monthly luncheons at Village Inn with retired John Deere friends and lunches with his East H. S. classmates. Back in the day Bill was a regular attendee at the Waterloo City Council meetings.  He enjoyed raising a little commotion with his cronies he called the Back Row Boys. 
 
Bill is survived by one sister, Sharon Brown of La Porte City, IA. his children, Billy Kammeyer, Mason City, IA, Theresa (Wade) Brantner, Durand, WI, Steve Kammeyer (Christy Moore), Waterloo, IA, Mimi, Chicago, IL 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Gloria.
 
The family would like to express its gratitude for care given to Bill by the staff at Home Instead, especially Toni. He will be sadly missed by all.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Friday October 11, 2024, at Central Christian Church, 3475 Kimball Ave, Waterloo, IA.  Burial with Military Honors provided by the Waterloo American Legion Post #138 and VFW Post #1623 to follow at Waterloo Cemetery on Kimball Ave.  A visitation will be held from 9:30AM Friday until the time of service at the church.
