Ronald LeRoy King
Ronald LeRoy King passed away on September 12, 2024, at Genesis East in Davenport, surrounded by his boys and his wife. His family was blessed to have the opportunity to express their love to him before his passing.
Ron was born on July 17, 1942, to Lucien and Geraldine King, who have both preceded him in death, along with his sister Patricia King. He is survived by his devoted wife, Tammy King; his sister, Sherry Harmon; his brother, Kenneth King; and his three beloved sons, Brent, Kristopher, and Corey, whom he shared with his first wife, Vada Baker.
Ron was a proud and doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Kelsen, Brayton, Ethan, and Kinsey King, who knew him affectionately as "Pappy”. Family was always Ron’s first priority, and he made every effort to create lasting memories with his loved ones through vacations, road trips, camping, hunting, and even sneaking his boys into his squad car during night shifts, just to spend more time with them.
Throughout his life, Ron worked tirelessly to provide for his family, often holding multiple jobs. His dedication extended beyond his home into his esteemed career in law enforcement. He served as a patrolman and worked his way up through the ranks, eventually becoming Chief of Police. His distinguished career included roles such as Lieutenant, Detective, Captain of Investigations and Support Services, Internal Affairs Officer, and Assistant Chief of Police. Ron’s leadership was recognized as he served as President of the Illinois/Iowa Chief of Police Association, President of the Iowa State Police Officers Association Local #6, and Grand Master of the Iowa Masonic Lodge #2. He was also a member of the International Chief’s of Police Association.
No memorial service will be held for Ron, rather a Celebration of Life event will be held September 20th (Friday) at the Rendezvous Banquet Facility on Lucas Street in Muscatine from 3–7 pm. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering and honoring his remarkable life.
The family would like to extend special appreciation to Nurse April at Genesis East’s ICU, whose care and compassion provided comfort to Ron and his family during his final days.
