Roger Alan Sattizahn
Roger Alan Sattizahn, 63, of Rowley, Iowa passed away On September 11, 2024 at Buchanan County Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer.
Roger was born on April 16th,1961 to David and Marian (Bramer) Sattizahn of Independence, IA. He was the youngest of eleven siblings. Sandra, Ronald, Cathy, Kenneth, Steve, Arnie, Carol, Cindy, David, and Carl.
Roger graduated from Independence High School in 1980. After graduating he worked various jobs until 1984 when he enlisted into the Air Force. Roger served 10 years until he was honorably discharged in 1994. After his service, he worked other various jobs until he started working at the University of Northern Iowa. After 28 years of employment at UNI he retired in 2022.
On September 25, 1981, Roger married the love of his life Sandra “Sandy” (Stocker). Roger and Sandy later went on to have four children; Ryan, LeAnn, Alex, and Abby.
For Roger and Sandy their love was infinite. It carried them through many journeys. They faced many difficult challenges moving from Iowa to Texas and California while Roger was enlisted in the Air Force. Another big challenge was being separated while he was stationed in South Korea. Doing all this and raising a family is something they knew they could overcome together. They eventually made their way back to Iowa where they made their home in Rowley, IA. Roger had various hobbies. He loved spending his time with his family. He enjoyed family cookouts, grilling, camping and being outdoors. Roger and his wife Sandy were active members of various UTV Clubs, where they loved to ride their UTV with friends. They loved to fill their time going on trail rides and various trips together. He had so much love and pride for his children, even more so for his grandchildren. He loved the title of Grandpa or “POPS”. Often you could find Him enjoying a western show, puzzle, or coming up with another creative project.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents David and Marian Sattizahn; sisters Carol (Jim) Stephenson, Cindy (Steve) Rosenboom, and Sandra (Mike) Smock. A brother Carl Sattizahn and three grandchildren Thatcher, Tate, and Tayten Sattizahn.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Sattizahn, and Children: Ryan (Heather) Sattizahn, LeAnn (Don) Terray, Alex (Danielle) Sattizahn, Abby (Derrick) Peyton. Grandchildren: Ethan, Evan, Trapp, and Ryleigh Sattizahn, Harmony and Talan Walker, Taiven, Naleah, and Kaisen Jones, Ellie, Elias, Eden, Emmy, and Evelyn Peyton. Sister: Cathy (Wendell) Reece and brothers: Ronald (Marilyn), Kenneth (Patricia), Arnie, Steve and David Sattizahn.
A celebration of Life will be Held Sunday September the 29th at 1:00pm at Rowley Community Hall. In lieu of Flowers, Donations may be made in Rogers memory to the East Buchanan School on behalf of the lunch program.
