Jack Duane Decker

Jack Duane Decker, 89 of Morris, Illinois died in his sleep on Friday, September 13, 2024. He was born July 26, 1935, to Harry and Selma (Kota) Decker in Finchford, Iowa, where he will also be buried. 

Jack worked for his father as a young man putting up telephone lines. He joined the navy in 1953 and served in the Korean war until 1956. He worked for Coca-Cola before becoming employed with John Deere, where he retired after 26 years. He also owned his own business repairing boats and trolling motors.

He married Marlene Wassam Chumley, and they had three children before divorcing in 1965. He married Bonnie Dee Trumbauer on November 27, 1965. They had one son.

Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie; four children, Tamie (Richard) Schiller of Newton, Iowa, Kathy (Ron) Duvall of Fort Meyers, Florida, Bob (Becky) Decker of Garrison, Iowa, Mark (Sarah) Decker of Marseilles, Illinois; five grandchildren, Sarah, Nick, Colin, Zane and Cheri; and seven great grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Phyllis and Cheri.

Jack loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and made hundreds of fretwork gifts for his friends, family and various charities. Hunting was his favorite sport. His children and grandchildren have many fond memories of camping trips spent hunting and fishing.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
