Obituary for William T McVey

William T McVey 91 passed away on Wednesday, October 30 2024 in Marshalltown surrounded by his loving family. Graveside service on Friday November 8th at 11:00 at Cedar Memorial 4200 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, la Dress casual and warm.

He was born November 5th 1932 in Ottumwa Iowa to Harry and Violet (Ratcliff) McVey. Bill married the love of his life Blanche (Klontz) McVey on October 5th 1957. They were married for over 60 wonderful years.

Bill led a very happy active life filled with family and friends. One of his favorite activities was golfing every chance he had. He was very good at it, always giving us kids lessons whether we wanted them or not.

Bill and his wife had the gambling fever. They made numerous trips to the Meskawki casino where they played for hours. Not sure how they did it, but they always came back big winners. One lucky man.

They became snowbirds after retirement for 20 years and loved the warmer climate and made wonderful friends in Mesa. Bill learned to play Bocce ball and his biggest pet peeve was opponents who cheated while playing against him. He was a stickler for the rules.

When back in Iowa he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, spending time with the great grand kids, keeping his car so spotless that it look brand new at all times.

Survivors include brothers Jack and Harry, sisters Marge, Lexie, Barb, and Judy; daughter Teri (Rick) Butz, sons Bill Jr. (Lorie Biggart) McVey, and Randy (Diane) McVey; Grandchildren Josh (Kelly) Kintzel, Mollie McDonald, Stephanie Henry (Dom Walton), Samantha Conley, Emilia (Justin) Aleksander, and Trent McVey. He also leaves behind numerous great grand children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and grandson Logan McVey. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family
