Roy Cecil McAllister

Roy Cecil McAllister, age 70, of Palo, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at his home with family by his side.

Roy was born August 21, 1953, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Herschel and Marjorie (McLean) McAllister. After receiving his GED, he went on to further his education and graduated from the Institute of Electronics Technology in Paducah, KY with an Associate of Applied Science degree in electronics. In his younger days he worked at various jobs including a foundry, as a truck driver and was a pallet maker. He retired two years ago from Collins Aerospace after more than 21 years of service there. On July 10, 1999, Roy married Brenda Welchhance in Poplar Bluff, MO. 

Roy enjoyed sprint car racing, watching Arizona Cardinal Football, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games, fishing and camping. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. 

Survivors include his three children, Kyle McAllister of Jackson, MO, Chandra (Nirmall) Dijkman of Rogers, ARK and Maggie (Bailey) Welchhance of Coralville, IA; grandchildren, Kacie Ford of Poplar Bluff, MO, Hannah McAllister of Jackson, MO, Katelyn and Addison McAllister both of Williamsville, MO, Ellory and Avery Dijkman both of Rogers, ARK and Cyrus and Apollo Welchhance both of Coralville, IA; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ben (Wanda) McAllister of Ely, IA and Bill McAllister of Puxico, MO. He was further survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, Roy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Herschel McAllister and Willis McAllister; granddaughter, Kendra McAllister and sister-in-law, Judy McAllister.

A visitation for Roy will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 1 – 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church of North Liberty with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospice, 209 Blairs Ferry Road. #100, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402 First United Methodist Church of North Liberty, 85 N Jones Blvd, North Liberty, IA 52317.

The family would like to thank the staff at UnityPoint Hospice, Cedar Rapids for their compassion and care given to Roy; St. Lukes hospital staff for their care, Dr. Jinigiri and his staff, and Pastor Alecia Hilmer and friends at North Liberty First United Methodist Church who offered their support. Roy also appreciated the many calls, messages and visits from family and friends during his illness.
