Robert David Sykes, Jr.

Robert David Sykes Jr,55, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully at home, March 21st, 2024. Everyone who knew him called him David or Uncle D. He resided in Cedar Rapids most of his life. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on December 29th,1968 and traveled to Cedar Rapids by bus with his Mother at the tender age of 22 months.

He is survived by his wife Karen; daughters, Veronica and Victoria; his sons, Antesio and Terrell; grandchildren, Oakley, Emerson, Kyla, Jordan, Meliah and Noah; his mother, Bertha Sykes; his sister, Sonya; his uncle, Eddie Johnson; aunts, Ida Mae Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, and Aunt Nicole; great aunt, Quenetta Williams of Cedar Rapids; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends, 

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Sr; his brother, Christopher Sykes; grandparents, Annie and Eddie Johnson; his aunt, Anna Lou Sanders; and nephew, Christian Cungtion.

He enjoyed sports, fishing and especially family BBQs. He graduated from Washington High School in 1989 and studied veterinary care at Kirkwood Community College. He truly loved raising dogs and owned several chows and pit bulls. 

He married Karen Ryan in 2000 and they made Cedar Rapids their home together for 24 years. There was nothing more important to David than family and the birth of his youngest grandchildren who dramatically changed his life. 

David’s smile, laughter, and uncanny sense of humor will be greatly missed.
