Donna R. (Smith) Barnes

Donna R. Barnes, 91, of Olathe, KS, passed this life on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at her home. Per her wishes, her body will be cremated, and no services will be held. 

In lieu of sending flowers, a donation fund has been established for nonprofit organizations: Olathe Health Hospice Care and KC Pet Project (www.kcpetproject.org).

Donna R. Smith Barnes was born in Fairfield, Iowa. The daughter of Rolland (Red) and Helen Greenfield Smith. She graduated from Fairfield high school 1951. Followed by going into nursing school where she received Registered Nursing degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, Iowa.

On August 14, 1955, she was united in marriage to James Barnes at the First Christian  Church in Fairfield, Iowa. She utilized her nursing skills in Fairfield, Washington, and Keota, Iowa. She was active in Hospice care. She loved to read, fish, and involved with her children’s activities and farm life.  Her greatest love was helping others and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include Linda (Larry) Steenhoek of Prairie City, Iowa; David (Cheryl) Barnes of Washington, Iowa; Jo Barnes of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Proceeded Donna in death were husband, brother, mother, and father.
